(12/2/25) As a wedding gift in 1990, we got an Amway gift card, and we bought this block of knives (on the right of the photo), and now I am down to only 3 of the knives I use multiple times every day! (They eventually fell apart for sitting in a sink of water all night, and they are wood.) So in order to replace the 3 broken ones, I'd go to the 2nd hand store and look for new ones that 'sort of' matched. But many were so sharp, I was afraid I'd cut myself, and I brought home many that, when I cut up an apple, for instance, would go all wonkey, and not straight through the middle of the apple! I was like 'Who would use these? They are TERRIBLE! Then I stayed at a VRBO that had these Astercook knives, and it cut the apple nicely. So I took a pic of the knife and the brand, and found it here on Amazon handily. So while I would rather have another block of my old knives, since they don't make them anymore, I think that this is the next best thing. The only thing I don't like is how the handles are smooth plastic. Before we eat an apple, we wash the apple, so my wet hands are holding the knife. With my old (falling apart) wooden handles, they would not slip. But this morning, I found that frustrating, and I realized that I would have to have very dry hands to keep the knife handle dry while cutting, so I have some traction, and not all slip-slidey. I am happy that if a kid is helping me dry the dishes, if they are even slightly careful, they won't cut themselves on the knife, so in that regard, they are like my old knives, if you run it lightly along your palm, you won't find yourself cut. But it still cuts very nicely. My block was in perfect condition, as was every single knife. I can't believe the price, I thought knives this nice would cost more like $100 - $200. Am happy with my purchase.
